Fincantieri's Monfalcone shipyard today floated out Explora I, the first in a four-ship luxury series for MSC Group's new Explora Journeys brand.

The vessel, whose construction began in June 2021, is scheduled to enter service at the end of May 2023. At the same time, the construction of Explora II is proceeding with delivery expected in summer 2024.

Each vessel is 64,000gt with capacity for 1,000 passengers.

The float-out ceremony was attended by Pierfrancesco Vago, executive chairman of the cruise division of MSC Group, Fincantieri Chairman Claudio Graziano, and Fincantieri CEO Pierroberto Folgiero.

The four Explora Journeys vessels, ordered in 2018, represent business worth more than €2bn to Fincantieri.
