Holland America’s Rotterdam delivered at Fincantieri, Marghera (updated)
Holland America Line's Rotterdam was delivered today at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard.
It is the seventh Holland America ship to bear the Rotterdam name.
'Immaculately finished'
'Rotterdam looks stunning and will certainly live up to bearing such an iconic name as the new flagship of our fleet, carrying on a tradition of excellence that our guests have loved for nearly 150 years,' Holland America President Gus Antorcha said. 'Thank you to our partners at Fincantieri and our own team members who worked tirelessly to deliver the ship on schedule during what has been the most challenging of times, and also deliver a ship that looks beautiful, is immaculately finished and will be an incredible addition to our brand.'
Oct. 20 trans-Atlantic
Rotterdam will remain in non-guest operations until its trans-Atlantic crossing Oct. 20 from Amsterdam to Fort Lauderdale, where it will begin its maiden Caribbean season. Naming details have not been finalized and will be announced at a later date.
Design
At 99,800gt, Rotterdam is almost 300mtr long, has 1,340 cabins and can accommodate 2,668 passengers.
Contemporary in style, it was designed by Tihany Design and Yran & Storbraaten; several public areas were inspired by the architecture of music.
On-board technology aims to optimise energy efficiency and minimise environmental impact.
The sister of Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam — Pinnacle-class ships delivered in 2016 and 2018, respectively — Rotterdam is the 14th ship built at Marghera for HAL.
Update adds Gus Antorcha comments and corrects entry to service date
