Aquatic environments are always changing and adapting to new trends and regulations in the industry. Providing safer options for passengers to engage with your features on board is a crucial component of play value.

At Life Floor, we talk about this concept often because it’s a central tenet of why we design our safety surfaces to be both comfortable and engaging. Play value directly influences passengers’ perception of a vessel and can be a determining factor of whether or not guests will book travel with a cruise line again. Creating interactive play experiences that are safer and maximize fun can ensure that passengers will look forward to future sailings.

One way to implement safer features and to reduce risk on deck is by utilizing certifications that have used third-party testing to verify specific products. One such certification is NSF/ANSI/CAN Standard 50:26, which specifically covers surfacing for interactive waterplay venues. This standard states that for a surface to become certified, the product must meet six criteria: slip-resistance, impact absorption, impermeability, cleanability, chemical resistance, and UVresistance. These criteria were established to reflect the top safety and durability concerns inaquatic environments. By choosing a product that is certified, you can reduce your liability and increase your peace of mind, knowing that you are adhering to best industry practices and putting your passengers’ safety first.
