MSC Euribia hull design revealed; bookings open for ship’s inaugural season in Northern Europe

Launching in early June 2023, the second LNG-powered vessel in MSC Cruises’ fleet will sail seven-night itineraries from Kiel, Germany to the Norwegian fjords, calling Copenhagen in Denmark and Norway’s Hellesylt (for the Geirangerfjord,) Alesund and Flam, among others.

The vessel is currently under construction at Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard, France.   

Hull design 

German artist Alex Flaemig is the winner of the competition to design the artwork for MSC Euribia’s hull. The Dresden native’s ‘#SaveTheSea’ features an underwater world with sea life which weaves together the colours of the MSC Cruises and MSC Foundation logos, and creates a gradient effect that paints sea fauna and flora across the hull.

The winning piece – one of 59 entries submitted from around the world – was selected by Pierfrancesco Vago, executive chairman of the Cruise Division of MSC Group, sand artist Jben and architect Martin Francis, who were among the panel of international judges.

Five finalists will have their designs displayed onboard the ship in a new art gallery. 

Vago: ‘Save the seas’

‘The contest to design the hull for our latest LNG ship was launched to help us communicate our unwavering commitment to the environment as this ship sails the world,’ remarked Vago. ‘Mr Flaemig’s design perfectly captured this message of passion and dedication to preserving the marine environment and its complex ecosystem and delivers a strong call to action to everyone who sees this ship to save the seas.’

Said the competition winner, ‘...What was important to me was not only the representation of the underwater world, but also a message about how it should be preserved.

‘I also want to express that an intact sea is also the basis for a healthy ecosystem on land. I want to emphasise this with the representation of birds, insects and leaves and last but not least with the globe…’

Environmentally advanced 

MSC Euribia will come with energy efficiency features to help reduce and optimise engine use, will utilise an advanced wastewater treatment system, and will have an underwater radiated noise management system. 

MSC Cruises pledges to power at least three upcoming ships with LNG, representing a total investment exceeding €3b. Added Vago, ‘In response to the growing need to protect the ocean for future generations, we have made it our mission to equip our ships with the latest and most advanced environmental technologies and solutions, with MSC Euribia showcasing the best of them to-date.’

Onboard entertainment and venues

A 112-metre-long Mediterranean promenade lined with boutiques, bars and restaurants topped with an LED sky screen showing  animations day and night will feature on board MSC Euribia.

Dining and entertainment options consist of 10 restaurants and 21 bars, including specialty restaurant options, a Carousel Lounge at the aft of the ship, a 945-seater theatre, five swimming pools including an extensive pool with retractable roof, a 1,000 sq m aquapark, as well as LEGO play areas and a Chicco baby club.

An enhanced MSC Yacht Club, with stylish private facilities and accommodation, a panoramic lounge, gourmet restaurant and private pool and sun deck will be available, along with ‘MSC for Me’ – the multi-channel digital experience for passengers.

A luxurious MSC Aurea Spa with a full range of treatments will be onboard in addition to a state-of-the-art MSC Gym by Technogym.
