Ponant agrees 10-year service agreement with ABB for Le Commandant Charcot
Ponant has signed up its expedition ship, Le Commandant Charcot, for ABB MarineCare - a service package that includes round-the-clock remote diagnostics, preventive and planned maintenance services and the provision of spare parts.
The scope of the 10-year agreement also involves warranty for the ship's energy storage system, supplied and integrated by ABB and condition monitoring. The Polar Class 2 expedition vessel features the largest energy storage system ever installed on a cruise ship, according to ABB, as well as two ABB Azipod propulsion units.
Mathieu Petiteau, newbuilding director, Ponant said, ‘ABB’s support ensures optimised performance of our advanced ABB technology on a continuous basis, bringing us complete peace of mind and allowing us to focus on delivering a unique travel experience.’
Access to training
Jyri Jusslin, head of service, ABB Marine & Ports added, ‘Ponant’s high standards in safety and sustainability are crucial when operating in isolated environments such as the Arctic and Antarctica. Our MarineCare agreement ensures that Le Commandant Charcot has full access to our remote services wherever in the world she is sailing, and offers the ship’s crew continuous training to help them respond to any unforeseen issues.’
Key benefits
According to ABB, the service package increases safety, reduces costs and cuts vessel downtime.
There are eight ABB Ability Collaborative Operations Centers around the world providing 24/7 support.
