Oelmann, who departed TUI Cruises as director of destination management & operations six months ago, will oversee organising, coordinating and implementing strategic and operational tasks as part of the steering of the HafenCity Cruise project in collaboration with Hamburg Port Authority.

Simone Maraschi, MD Cruise Gate Hamburg told Seatrade Cruise News, ‘We are delighted to have Tine join our team as new project coordinator for the future Cruise Center HafenCity and are looking forward to working together and driving forward this important terminal expansion for Hamburg. ‘

Oelmann-Scheel spent 15 years at TUI Cruises having joined the line at part of its start-up team in 2008.

Passion for cruise

Maraschi added, ‘Tine´s skills and expertise will greatly contribute to the success of the project. Her impressive qualifications, passion for and knowledge of the cruise industry make her an excellent fit for the role, and I have no doubt that our collaboration will be very fruitful and rewarding.‘

Two new berths

Located in Hamburg’s Überseequartier, the new facility will comprise two berths of 345mtr and 230mtr, with a maximum draft of 10.3mtr.

The new cruise terminal will be part of a complex including an underground bus station, car parking and taxi access, as well as hotel and retail space.

Cruise ships calling at the new terminal will berth directly in the heart of the city near the Elbphilharmonie and right next to historic Speicherstadt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015.

The facility is set to open in 2025 and will be equipped to deliver shore power to vessels at berth.
