TUI Cruises' Mein Schiff 7 launched at Meyer Turku

During the weekend, the ship will be moved to the outfitting quay, where its now assembled hull will be finalized over the next six months.

The Meyer Turku construction dock began to fill with water when the valves were opened in a playful competition between TUI Cruises, the shipyard management and the project team.

The sign to open the valves of the basin, which holds more than 300 million litres of water, was given by a traditional cannon shot.

Mein Schiff series

‘Meyer Turku and TUI Cruises have a long history together, and the Mein Schiff series is one of the success stories of the cruise world,’ said Tim Meyer, CEO of Meyer Turku.

Mein Schiff 7 is the last sister ship in the series, ‘but that does not mean that we have compromised on ambition, quite the opposite: with Mein Schiff 7, we are building a ship with built-in methanol capability for the first time at Meyer Turku shipyard,’ he added.

Meyer called the ship, ‘a giant leap in our quest for industry leadership in the green transition.’

Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises, commented, ‘the sister ship of Mein Schiff 1 and Mein Schiff 2 will not only offer many great innovations to our guests, but will also use new low-emission fuels.’

111,500gt Mein Schiff 7 is over 300mtr long with 15 decks. The ship's 1,461 cabins can accommodate a total of 2,894 passengers and a crew of about a thousand.
