AIDAcosma is set to leave Papenburg harbor Friday night
AIDAcosma is expected to depart Meyer Werft in the night from Friday to Saturday for its conveyance along the Ems River to the North Sea.

This 115th cruise ship of the Meyer Group is due to start the maneuver shortly after midnight with the passage of the Papenburg dock lock.

1,400 people on board

During the Ems transfer and the subsequent technical and sea trials on the North Sea, some 1,400 people will be on board — around 99% are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 with the remainder recovered and/or tested.

'This means we have reached a milestone in health protection and can concentrate on completing the ship despite the continuing restrictions due to the pandemic,' said Jochen Busch, project manager at Meyer Werft.

All LNG ships in Meyer's orderbook

AIDAcosma is Meyer's third cruise ship powered by LNG. Currently, all ships in Meyer Werft's orderbook are equipped with this propulsion system — including Silversea's Project Evolution, as announced today — while intensive work is already underway on new technologies such as fuel cells and synthetic fuels.

AIDAcosma will move along the Ems backwards, for greater safety, with the support of two tugs.

The conveyance schedule is subject to wind and weather conditions.
