A coin ceremony for Costa Toscana was held at Meyer Turku today, following sea trials for the ship in the previous two weeks.

This, Costa Cruises' second LNG-powered vessel, is scheduled for December delivery. It is to enter Western Mediterranean service on March 5 from Savona, Italy.

Accompanied by Costa senior officers and shipyard management, Costa Toscana Capt. Pietro Sinisi welded some commemorative coins into the vessel for good luck.

Costa Toscana is the sister of 2019's Costa Smeralda. Other LNG-powered vessels in the Costa Group include AIDA Cruises' AIDAnova and the soon-to-be-delivered AIDACosma.

Evolving toward a sustainable cruise model

The LNG investment confirms a commitment to evolve toward a sustainable cruise model, according to Costa President Mario Zanetti. 'At the same time Costa Toscana, thanks to her excellent and innovative services, will be able to attract new cruise guests, helping us to consolidate our presence in the Mediterranean and our gradual restart plan,' he added.

The new flagship, a tribute to Tuscany, results from a creative design project curated by Adam D. Tihany. The furnishings, lighting, fabrics and accessories will all be 'Made in Italy' and designed for Costa Toscana by 15 partners representing Italian excellence.
