CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping, the joint venture between China State Shipbuilding Corp. (CSSC) and Carnival Corp. & plc to serve the Chinese source market, announced Adora Cruises as the name of its new brand.

The first of two newbuilds for the jv – a 323mtr long ship with 2,125 passenger cabins - is scheduled to be delivered by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding at the end of 2023

Chinese source market

Adora Cruises will carry Chinese passengers and offer itineraries in both domestic waters and overseas, with sailings based around China’s Belt and Road Initiative that seeks to connect Asia with Africa and Europe, CSSC Carnival said Friday at the brand launch in Shanghai.

CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping described Adora Cruises as a crucial innovation integrating a classical cruising experience and newly-emerging culture and tourism resources.

Sailing domestically and abroad

‘Adora Cruises will develop more products tailor-made for Chinese passengers combining global and domestic cruise market highlights,’ said Roger Chen, CEO of CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping.

Slightly larger second ship

Shanghai Waigaoqiao shipyard has already started design and construction for a second larger 341mtr long, 142,000gt cruise vessel with 2,144 cabins, which will join Adora’s fleet after delivery.

CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping aims to develop the largest cruise fleet in Asia, offering year-round services from several homeports located in East, South and North China.

Cruising from Chinese ports remains on pause due to the pandemic.
