Steel was cut for the first of two LNG ships for Princess Cruises, to be built at Fincantieri's Monfalcone yard.

The 175,000gt Sphere-class vessels will be the largest built in Italy. Each has double-occupancy capacity for approximately 4,300 passengers.

Deliveries are scheduled in 2023 and 2025.

Step up from Royal class

The ships will outsize the current Royal class ships, which measure 143,700gt with 3,660 lower berths. The last of that series, Discovery Princess, is due to enter service in spring 2022.
