Meyer Werft floated out Silver Nova, first of a new class and set to become Silversea Cruises' 12th ship upon its delivery this summer.

The 728-passenger vessel emerged from its covered building dock and was positioned in the Papenburg harbor basin to have its funnel and LNG and radar masts attached. Outfitting will continue there until Silver Nova's conveyance along the Ems River to the sea, scheduled for the end of May.

Lucky coin tradition

To mark the float-out, Capt. Cosimo Pontillo welded a lucky coin to a wall on Silver Nova's pool deck, where it will be visible to travelers.

'Silver Nova embodies the vision of our cruise line and the evolution of our fleet,' Silversea President/CEO Barbara Muckermann said.

Environmental features

The ship has LNG capability and is planned to use a fuel cell and batteries for power in port. It has a new interior configuration, Silversea's first three-deck atrium, two-story Venetian lounge and a new bar.

A sister, Silver Ray, is to follow.
