Four new Saga vessels are set to join the line’s existing two river boats in sailing Europe's waterways.

Spirit of the Moselle, Spirit of the Main, Spirit of the Elbe and Spirit of the Rhône will operate across each of the rivers they are named after; the first enters service May 2023 with the rest following in each year that follows.

Saga’s current river vessels – Spirit of the Rhine and Spirit of the Danube – were jointly named in a ceremony in Arnhem, Netherlands on March 19.

'Exciting next step'

Saga Cruises’ CEO Nigel Blanks said, ‘We are so excited about the opportunity to expand our fleet of river ships to keep up with the ever-growing demand for luxury boutique river cruising. Today’s announcement of four new ships is the exciting next step in expanding our wider cruise offer. It builds on the success of Spirit of the Rhine and Spirit of the Danube which were launched this weekend and on our award-winning ocean cruise offer…’

The news was announced as Saga revealed its annual results and is part of the company’s wider strategic growth plan.
