Brintons unveils Reverb design collection

Brintons unveils Reverb design collection

‘The design illustrates different elements within today’s environment and is divided into four distinct chapters: organic, micro, urban and flight,’ said the UK company.

Seven months in the making, the new collection features design themes that depict everything from the molecular, genetic make-up of an organism through to vast, sprawling urban landscapes.

‘Reverb is substantially different to any of the collections we have ever presented to the design community before and our global creative teams have really pushed the envelope for creativity and exploration within a specific theme,’ John Bain, global design director, explained.

He singled out Reverb’s features as ‘generating cross over between sustainable urbanisation and green related topics – a core relationship linked to contemporary works.’

All of the Reverb designs can be woven as Wheelmark approved Axminster remarked Brintons.

Valletta extends primary cruise quay

Valletta extends primary cruise quay

The extension of Pinto Quay 1-2 in Valletta's Grand Harbour will help in providing better infrastructure for larger cruise ships.

The works included the removal of a ro-ro ramp, as well as excavations and dredging works on the seabed and have been completed in time for the summer season.

This development has created a continuous 308mtr berth for larger vessels, from the previous 264mtr bringing the total quay length available to 1,383 metres.

VISET acting general manager, Stephen Xuereb highlighted the need to move in line with the growing trend of larger ships visiting the islands. MSC Splendida, MSC Poesia, Navigator of the Seas, Brilliance of the Seas, Norwegian Gem, Costa Pacifica and Costa Luminosa amongst others are all calling Valletta this year.

UBS sees SOLAS 2010 drop in Europe capacity

UBS sees SOLAS 2010 drop in Europe capacity

UBS said at least 14 ships, or 5,600 berths, are likely to leave the 148,300-berth European market during 2010.

That would reduce the growth rate by roughly 400 basis points, 'helping to solidify European-sourced cruise pricing,' according analyst Robin Farley in a note to investors.

Most withdrawals will be from the fleets of smaller operators with older tonnage as the major players field newer ships.

UBS expects Carnival Corp. & plc to benefit most from the withdrawals as approximately 30% of its fleet is in European-sourcing brands, growing to 40% by 2012.

A lower impact from SOLAS 2010 changes is expected in North America where ships are much younger. UBS reaffirmed capacity growth in the market as unchanged from prior estimates of 5.2%, a figure that is nonetheless lower than historic levels.

Everglades site adds consumer, business features

Everglades site adds consumer, business features

porteverglades.net and through the main Broward County site at www.broward.org/port.

Industry and maritime service providers can access the tariff, business directory, ship schedule and map with a click on the same web page.

'Within a five-mile radius of Port Everglades, our cruise guests have access to beaches, upscale shopping, golf courses, fishing, waterside tours, fine dining and an international airport. It makes sense that we should be promoting all of Broward County through our website and not just our seaport,' said Port Everglades director Phil Allen.

New sections 'Cruise and Play' and 'Get A Room' are designed to help cruisers plan their stays with offers, nearby sightseeing options, special events and dining deals, as well as an online booking engine for hotels and connections to flights and car rentals.

In addition, customers doing business with the port can access information quickly, according to Carlos Buqueras, director of business development. Examples include the 'ePayments' box for paying invoices online and 'Permits and more' with applications to apply for permits, real estate leases and other documents.
