The company had issued an earnings warning on July 3, citing higher than expected operating costs at its Day Spas businesses and revising its estimate to 17 to 19 cents per share.

Revenues for the second quarter ended June 30 rose 52.3% to $64.7m from $42.5m during the comparable '01 quarter. The results reflect the completion in the third quarter last year of the acquisitions of Mandara Spa LLC and Mandara Spa Asia Ltd, the Greenhouse Day Spas and C.Spa, Inc. In addition, Steiner during the second quarter wrote off $29.6m of intangibles, consisting primarily of goodwill related to the Greenhouse and C.Spa aquisitions.

He told Seatrade Insider today the direct spend from those cruise ship visits was a record NZ$171m.He said that CNZ, which now has 29 members, will take another roadshow to the US in November and is also planning a nation-wide roadshow to all NZ ports before the start of this year's season to highlight the growth of the cruise industry and the importance of product delivery.

Australians quick to book QM2

When Cunard launched its special patrons-only preview of QM2's inaugural 2004 season last month the Sydney reservations office took 521 bookings from past passengers. When bookings were thrown open to the general public today it had taken 105 bookings by 4 p.m.

A Cunard spokeswoman said travel agents have reported a tremendous level of potential passenger interest and that the 626 bookings to date have been for the more expensive suites available. 'We're getting the equivalent of QE2's Princess Grill passengers,' she told Seatrade Insider. 'It certainly proves there's a sound market here for premium cruise products with proper marketing.'

1bn of ship-related debt has been resolved, with $200m in claims remaining, according to The Miami Herald. Priority creditors like passengers and employees could get up to $10m. The Herald puts the figure for employees at up to $4,650 per person, while up to $2,100 can go to each passenger who paid for a cruise by cash or check. Unsecured creditors could eventually get 10 cents on the dollar.

Renaissance has $14m in cash, up from $8m when it filed for bankruptcy last September, according to the Herald. Attorney Singerman told the paper that Renaissance may try to collect more from 'a very substantial number of litigation targets.'
