SeaDream: Despite economy, sales going well

SeaDream: Despite economy, sales going well

'Bookings for 2008 continue to sell briskly at good yields and 2009 shows a strength that belies the economic headlines,' said Larry Pimentel, SeaDream president, ceo and co-owner.

'Yes, the worldwide economy is sobering for all,' he added. 'Yet, intelligent marketers of all kinds of luxury travel products should not give way to panic but rather offer highly measurable value to those consumers who refuse to hit the panic button.'

As in past years, SeaDream's pair of 50-couple yachts in 2009 will sail the Caribbean in the winter and the Mediterranean in the summer. Small yachting ports are a specialty, and a number of new destinations are on the roster in both regions.

P&O Australiaapos;s agent and client friendly procedures

P&O Australiaapos;s agent and client friendly procedures

In a statement issued today, Lourey said the overhaul of the company's terms and conditions follows 'extensive research with past passengers and travel agents' and has been designed 'to make doing business with the cruise line easier than ever before.'

The requirement for passengers to fill in forms that agents had to send on to the company to confirm their bookings has been abolished.

Passengers who cancel more than 181 days before departure will receive full refunds and deposits will be based on the length of the voyage, starting from A$200 (US$159).

In what Lourey says is a first for P&O Cruises Australia, passengers may change their travel plans from one cruise to another up to 121 days from the departure of the ship they originally booked without charge.

Lourey also announced that, as part of a 'family-focused policy,' children may now occupy separate cabins to their parents and guardians, providing they are sharing with someone who is 16 or older.

Norwegian Dream sale apos;wonapos;t be easyapos; now

Norwegian Dream sale apos;wonapos;t be easyapos; now

'It's a terrible time to have to put a ship on the market, and there are very few players indeed for something of this size and value today with such prompt delivery,' a broker said.

In the current financial environment it will not be easy, he added, noting that the sale price for Norwegian Dream will almost certainly reflect that.

The agreement between Star and Louis was for $218m. While the detail of the sales contract is not known, an industry source said the deposit was likely to be the customary 10%, or $21.8m.

Speaking in general terms, the source told Seatrade Insider that under English law, sellers are afforded more protection than just the value of the deposit and if sellers, due to market circumstances, find that the difference between the contractually agreed price and what they now have to sell the ship for is greater than the deposit amount, they may pursue buyers for that total amount as proven damages.

In commenting on the cancellation, Louis cited technical issues.

According to a broker, if there are technical issues, this should be covered in the sale contract. When the ship tenders official notice of readiness for delivery, it should be in compliance with the agreed terms and conditions of the contract.

If the buyers hold that there are technical issues, they may try to reject this notice, the broker said, in which case the delivery date is deferred until the ship is ready -- although there would always be a cancelling date customarily in the buyers' option. However, the classification society would normally be the sole authority on the vessel's readiness.

Both Star and Louis have said they are taking legal advice on the matter. Seatrade Insider understands their attorneys have been meeting in London for several days.

Parties close to the deal declined to comment beyond their official statements.

Norwegian Dream is currently sailing for Norwegian Cruise Line. Under the agreement between Star and Louis, after the sale closed the ship was to have been chartered back to NCL until November.
