'This is our lowest orderbook in decades,' CEO Josh Weinstein said during the company's fourth quarter earnings call. 'We don't anticipate any new ships in 2026 and just one or two newbuilds each year for several years thereafter.'
Weinstein said the company is focused on 'prudent' capacity growth.
Seabourn Pursuit, Carnival Jubilee, Queen Anne, Sun Princess and a sister
Carnival's orderbook lists just the 2023 deliveries of expedition ship Seabourn Pursuit and the Excel-class Carnival Jubilee, with 2024 debuting Princess Cruises' next-generation, LNG-powered Sun Princess and Cunard's Queen Anne, and 2025 seeing a second Princess Sphere-class ship.
3% capacity growth in 2023
The company projects total capacity growth of 3% in 2023 compared to 2019, at the lower end of the previous guidance range of 3% to 5%. This includes newly delivered ships that will represent nearly a quarter of Carnival Corp.'s capacity.
