Carnival backtracks on room service charges, for now

Carnival 'in the process of making some adjustments' to its plan to charge for all room service items, apart from complimentary continental breakfast
Following negative reaction, Carnival Cruise Line is reassessing its plan to begin charging for all room service items—apart from continental breakfast, which remains complimentary.

The new plan to apply a la carte charges to room service items was to start this month. Items were generally priced from $2 to $5 and included upgraded choices.

Balancing customers' interests and reducing food waste costs

'We are in the process of making some adjustments to that plan to balance the interests of our guests with our efforts to reduce food waste costs,' Carnival Cruise Line said in a statement. 'For the time being, there will be no changes until we finalize a plan that will be communicated to guests and travel agency partners alike.'

Previously, Carnival had charged only for select items during the day and after 10 p.m.
