Virgin Voyages has teamed with one of New York City's most historic tattoo brands to offer the kind of souvenir sailors have been bringing back from sea for generations.

Virgin partnered with World Famous Tattoo Ink, and owner Lou Rubino Jr., son of the late Tattoo Lou Rubino of Long Island. This means more than half a century of tattooing experience will inform Scarlet Lady's Squid Ink.

A permanent way to commemorate the voyage

'At Virgin Voyages, we believe embarking on a journey through the modern romance of sailing would not be complete without the opportunity for a permanent way to commemorate your voyage,' the company said in announcing this first in cruising.

'Get one as a reminder of a lifelong connection with another sailor you just met on board, or maybe it's a symbol that takes you back to the great times you had on your first voyage at sea. Whatever it is, whatever it's not, the only thing that matters is that it's meaningful to you, and that's what a Virgin voyage is all about,' the cruise line's pitch continued.

Sweepstakes to win a free cruise and micro-tattoo

Along with announcing Squid Ink, Virgin opened a sweepstakes to win a western Caribbean cruise for two plus a free micro-tattoo for each person. Entries must be received by Nov. 16, and the grand prize winner will be selected in a drawing on or about Nov. 20.
