Queen of the West - more balconies, reduced occupancy
American Cruise Lines’ Queen of the West completed its first cruise from Portland, Ore., since its multimillion-dollar make-over that included the reconstruction of staterooms, community areas, the galley and engine room.

Key additions were private balconies, a new library on the third deck and the conversion of several staterooms into singles to reduce the capacity from 150 to 120.

‘Our goal was to make a great riverboat even greater and to maximize the comfort and amenities available to our passengers,’ said Timothy Beebe, vp of American Cruise Lines.

The reconstruction included newly designed and custom built furniture and fresh décor.

The company said the new, authentic paddlewheel makes for a quieter and smoother cruise with less environmental impact.

American Cruise Lines’ newbuild, Queen of the Mississippi, is ahead of schedule for its August 2012 inaugural season.
