Carnival Cruise Line’s 88,500gt Carnival Spirit, which was permanently home-ported in Australia in October 2012, will undergo a A$44m upgrade at the Sembawang Shipyard in Singapore.

As previously reported, Carnival Spirit departs Sydney on August 1 for a 15-day voyage to Singapore via Brisbane, the Whitsundays, Darwin, Lombok and Bali.

The ship will undergo a two-week drydock in Singapore before leaving on August 30 for the return 15-day voyage to Sydney.

Carnival Cruise Line Australasia vp Jennifer Vandekreeke said there will be dive-in movies with a 5-meter by 3-meter screen mounted near the mid-ship pool.

‘Our guests will be able to watch films while taking a dip in the mid-ship pool,’ Vandekreeke said.

‘We think our fun-loving Australian guests will dive straight into the new concept.’

She said at night there will be screenings under the stars with all the trimmings, including popcorn and blankets and special theme evenings like Date Night and Family Movie Time.

The mid-ship pool deck will have a new RedFrog Rum Bar, BlueIguana Tequila Bar, BlueIguana Cantina Mexican eatery and Guy’s Burger Joint.
