Vladivostok and MSC Splendida break records

A Vladivostock welcome for MSC Splendida
Vladivostok welcomed a maiden call of MSC Splendida with about 3,000 passengers from Japan aboard on Tuesday, becoming longest and highest overall passenger capacity cruise ship ever to call at the Russian Far East port.

It was also the first call of an MSC Cruises’ ship to Vladivostok during a cruise that started in Shanghai, called to Yokohama, Muroran, Aomori and after Vladivostok departed for Sendai.

According to tradition MSC Splendida’s passengers and crew were greeted by a welcome ceremony with drummers, vocal and dance groups, organized by Vladivostok Sea Terminal, in partnership with the shipping agent and tour operator.

Free city maps, guidebooks and information was provided by the Tourist Information Center of Primorsky Region. Passengers and crew had the opportunity to make a photo with artists in Russian national costumes.

During the visit MSC Splendida’s captain Giuseppe Moresco and members of the delegation exchanged gifts and discussed the prospects of other MSC Cruises’ ships calls to Vladivostok.

Thousands of citizens came to the terminal to see MCS Splendida and take photos and the terminal operator remarked that many were interested in finding out the possibility of embarking on a cruise leaving Vladivostok.

Vladivostok Sea Terminal is actively working to develop as a homeport, and has created a  reconstruction project with this in mind.

The record-breaking MSC Splendida call will remain in place until September 2019 when Vladivostok will receive calls by Quantum of the Seas and Spectrum of the Seas, made possible after completion of dredging works alongside the berth, the first stage of which has already been completed.

In May this year Costa Serena brought the highest number of passengers on a single to Vladivostock. Next cruise ship to visit is Costa Fortuna scheduled for September 22, 2018 with Korean passengers onboard.
