Julie Gascon is Montréal Port Authority's new CEO

Julie Gascon brings significant maritime experience to her new role as president/CEO of the Montréal Port Authority
Julie Gascon, a Transport Canada and Coast Guard veteran, was hired to lead the Montréal Port Authority as president/CEO.

Currently president and CEO of the Pacific Pilotage Authority, she will take up her new position on Feb. 12.

'Weath of experience and exemplary career'

Gascon's 'wealth of experience and exemplary career path attest both to her great thoroughness and her innate leadership skills in managing multidisciplinary teams. I am certain that her qualities will enable us not only to continue our current projects, but give them fresh impetus,' Montréal Port Authority Chair Nathalie Pilon said.

Pilon also thanked the current management team, starting with Geneviève Deschamps, who will continue as interim CEO until Gascon takes over.

'I look forward to joining a strong team and contributing to the success of a strategic asset for Québec and the rest of Canada alike,' Gascon said.

Seafaring work and strategic shoreside roles

Hailing from Greater Montréal, Gascon spent most of her seafaring career on Canadian Coast Guard ships. Starting on the West Coast fleet in 1998, she also sailed worldwide on very large crude carriers and large passenger vessels to complete her master mariner certification.

She held a number of strategic positions within Transport Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard, including director general, maritime safety and securty at Transport Canada and director general, operations and assistant commissioner Central and Arctic region, leading the operational and tactical delivery of Coast Guard programs and services in the Great Lakes, central Canada including Québec and the Canadian Arctic.
