Port of Galveston chalks up record 2023 profit/revenues

The Galveston Wharves posted record net operating income and revenues in 2023 with its greatest cruise count ever: 1.49m passengers.

Net operating income of $24.5m was a 55.4% increase over 2022 on revenues of $67.4m, a 27.5% increase over the prior year.

Port CEO/Director Rodger Rees had already announced the 1.49m passengers, based on a total of 2.98m embarkations and debarkations, a 42% increase from the year before.

Big parking revenue hike

In 2023 the port also posted a record 210,665 cruise-related cars parked, a 46.4% increase over the prior year.

The port paid $1,684,093 to the city of Galveston, consisting primarily of local sales taxes, cruise passenger charges and long-term parking fees.

Higher 2024 forecasts

Galveston's 2024 budget forecasts are even higher, with projected operating revenues of $72.5m, operating expenses of $35.5m and net income of $37m.
