Family-owned Scandinavian expedition cruise operator, Albatros Expeditions, is preparing to welcome the newly-built Ocean Albatros which it has chartered year-round.

First up is an Arctic summer season starting in June, followed by an Antarctic season where she will join sister ship Ocean Victory in 2023/24.

Ocean Albatros left the China Merchants' Haiman shipyard last week having been handed over to SunStone.

‘Ocean Albatros is now fully underway from the building yard, joining our fleet of highly sustainable, modern and innovative state-of-the-art expedition vessels,’ says Capt. Michael P. Elwert, President & CEO of Albatros Expeditions.

In addition to the 94 sea-facing staterooms, lecture lounges, two restaurants, wellness amenities (jacuzzies and sauna), multiple bars, and open deck dining facility, Ocean Albatros has been built to the Ice Class 1A, Polar Code 6 compliance.

Svalbard debut

For its maiden season, Ocean Albatros will sail expedition cruises to Svalbard, Jan Mayen, Greenland, and Iceland, among other destinations.

Departing on June 15, 2023, from Longyearbyen, the vessel's maiden voyage will take guests on an 8-day/7-night expedition cruise around Svalbard.

Longer Antarctic sailings

‘With two ships running in the Antarctic next season, we are offering longer trips, including an extended 23-day Falklands and South Georgia itinerary visiting the South Sandwich Islands, as well as some of our classic trips,’ noted Søren Rasmussen, founder and chairman of Albatros Expeditions.
