The Scenic discover yacht sisters sail side by side in West Greeland's Qeqertarsuaq Channel
In a first, Scenic Group's two discovery yachts sailed side by side Aug. 16 when Scenic Eclipse and Scenic Eclipse II rendezvoused in Western Greenland.

The ships met in the Qeqertarsuaq Channel, where Scenic Eclipse was finishing a Northwest Passage journey and en route to Disko Bay, and Scenic Eclipse II had just completed an Iceland-Greenland voyage and was heading out on an extensive Greenland expedition.

Champagne and music

'Meeting in such a remote and spectacular channel, north of the Arctic Circle, is amazing,' said Senior Capt. Erwan Le Rouzic aboard Scenic Eclipse II. 'We were pleased to introduce Scenic Eclipse II to guests on board Scenic Eclipse in such a special way. All the guests were invited to celebrate with Champagne and live music on the Observation Deck. It was a very emotional and fun shared moment.'

Special for the crews, too

The unusual meeting was also meaningful for the two Scenic crews, as Le Rouzic conveyed: 'It’s a very special moment for the crews to meet with their sister ship, as there are many friends and close colleagues stationed on each discovery yacht. In the polar regions, there is a particularly strong feeling of community and friendship due to the remoteness of these places.'

Scenic Eclipse and Scenic Eclipse II are expected to meet again during the 2023/24 Antarctica season.
