Cunard to partner with historic British Royal Navy-linked Pusser’s Rum

Traditional navy rum, Pusser’s Rum, will return to the high seas more than five decades after the daily rum issue was abolished
Cunard passengers will be able to order cocktails crafted with Pusser’s Rum, a traditional British Royal Navy spirit, owing to a new partnership between the cruise line and the drinks brand.

The return of Pusser’s Rum to the high seas comes 53 years after the abolition of the rum issue: From the 1600s, sailors in the Royal Navy were issued a daily ration of rum as a reward for hard labour, until the centuries-old custom was abolished in 1970, on what is now commemorated as Black Tot Day.

It is the only rum blended in exact accordance with the Royal Navy specifications last used when it discontinued the daily rum ration.

Spirit of discovery

Chris Jones, MD at Paragon Brands which distributes Pusser’s in the UK, said, 'As rich in flavour as it is in history, Pusser’s Rum combines exceptional quality with the spirit of adventure, exploration, and camaraderie, rooted in its distinguished naval heritage.

“The partnership between Pusser’s Rum and Cunard line is a tribute to the adventurers of the past. As guests set sail on journeys across the globe, they can enjoy a delicious cocktail made with Pusser’s Rum – carrying with them that same spirit of discovery.’

Authentic blend

The Admiralty blend has been heavily influenced by rum distilled in a double wooden pot, which first went into production in 1732.

Today, the double wooden pot stills continue to be the foundation of Navy rum and a vital part of the Pusser’s distillation process, which allows Pusser’s to be labelled as an authentic Navy Rum.
