BBC presenter joins Seatrade Cruise Med conference programme

BBC World News presenter and anchor, Lucy Hockings, will be joining the Seatrade Cruise Med conference, which takes place this September in Lisbon, Portugal.

The anchorwoman, who has interviewed global opinion leaders and influencers and covered some of the major news events of the past decade, will put her skills into action as moderator for the State of the Industry panel on Day 1 and the Upscale Market session on Day 2 of the high profile cruise event from September 19-20, 2018.

‘The addition of this talented journalist to the programme is testament to the calibre of discussion that will be had during these two days,’ said Mary Bond, director of publishing & content for event organiser Seatrade.

The State of the Industry session brings together some of Europe’s most senior cruise line executives as well as the president of MedCruise, representing more than 100 cruise ports around the Mediterranean. Lucy will moderate the discussion covering key issues facing the cruise market and including challenges as well as the opportunities.

High profile cruise execs join opening panel

The high profile panel includes: David Dingle, chairman, Carnival UK; Stuart Leven, vp EMEA and md of RCL Cruises Ltd., Royal Caribbean International; Gianni Onorato, ceo, MSC Cruises; Neil Palomba, president, Costa Crociere; Richard J. Vogel, president & ceo, Pullmantur Group and Airam Diaz Pastor, president, MedCruise.

Her second moderating task will be for the popular Fireside Chat which is an informal session, bringing together three experts to discuss: How new-build luxury yachts are impacting the Upscale Market in the Med.

Joining Hockings will be: Doug Prothero, ceo, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection; Stephen Winter, international sales director, Ponant and Anne-Sophie Peyran, head of marketing, commercial, communication, French Riviera Ports.

‘There are a number of newbuilds and newcomers set to sail in the near future, added Bond. ‘And we are curious to see what impact they will bring to the luxury cruise market including how they are shaping their products to stand out in the Med. This “Fireside Chat” will give us insight from both operators’ and ports’ perspectives.’

Hockings has interviewed global opinion leaders and influencers

Over the years Hockings has interviewed presidents and prime ministers, film stars and decision makers. She has anchored major European events on location, bringing live and breaking news from the very heart of the story.

In March 2010, she was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum .

Prior to working at the BBC, she was a reporter in her native New Zealand working for TVNZ. She has a degree in journalism from Auckland University.
