Carnival Corp. is outsourcing roughly 200 IT jobs that support the corporation and its individual brands after partnering with Capgemini, a Paris-based global leader in consulting, technology and outsourcing.

All impacted employees are being offered jobs with Capgemini for at least six months, according to Carnival spokesman Roger Frizzell. During that time, they'll continue to serve in their current roles but as part of Capgemini.

Afterwards, many will stay in their current positions and some will be offered other positions at Capgemini, Frizzell said. He added impacted employees also have the option to seek other employment within Carnival Corp.

The change comes at a particularly sensitive time in the US, where one of President-elect Trump's campaign pledges was to crack down on companies sending jobs overseas.

However, it's disputed whether the Carnival jobs are going abroad.

In reporting on the story, CBS4 News in Miami said the workers being employed by Capgemini will participate in 'knowledge transfer activities,' with one Carnival employee saying this amounts to training their replacements in India.

'Our understanding is this work will be undertaken from former company employees as well as Capgemini employees in North America,' Frizzell said.

Carnival maintains this isn't a cost-saving move, but one that will 'help the company keep pace with the evolving technology environment.' Capgemini employs more than 180,000 people in over 40 countries, and clients include US government agencies.

The Carnival jobs are in IT operations, maintenance and support.
