Concordia captain sues Costa for wrongful dismissal

Concordia captain sues Costa for wrongful dismissal
Capt. Francesco Schettino, who faces multiple criminal charges in connection with Costa Concordia’s deadly capsize, is suing Costa Crociere for wrongful dismissal, Reuters reports from Rome.

Schettino’s lawyer told the news service that every worker has the right to appeal his firing and the captain is simply exercising that right.

Thirty-two people died after Costa Concordia hit the rocks off Giglio the night of Jan. 13.

Schettino faces charges of manslaughter, shipwreck and abandoning ship. Preliminary trial hearings are scheduled to begin on Monday in Italy.
