The Port of Osaka reports that the rebuilding of Tempozan cruise terminal has kicked into gear. The project is now underway,  through the PFI or Private Finance Initiative scheme and the redevelopment aims to solve issues such as 'shortage of space with more modern equipment and barrier-free facilities'.

The port’s newsletter says an announcement inviting tenders for the rebuilding of the facility is expected to be made in May 2017 with applications to be received next July. A contract is expected to be assigned and work commence in 2018.

The Port of Osaka received 21 cruise calls in 2015 and expects about 34 calls in 2017. In the second half of this year Skysea Golden Era , Nipponmaru, Diamond Princess, Pacific Venus, Golden Princess, Silver Shadow, Costa Victoria, and L’Austral have all visited the Japanese port. Asuka II will call in November,  while Pacific Venus will visit again in December .
