Earlier jobs with Royal Caribbean included avp marine operations in the company's UK office and director of maritime safety and compliance, based in Miami.
Murrell began her Royal Caribbean career at sea, as a navigation and safety officer, from 2000 to 2003.
For the past 16 months she worked in risk management for BP Shipping and before that, Murrell spent nearly three years with the National Transportation Safety Board in Washington, DC, as director of the Office of Marine Safety.
