Based in Miami, she reports directly to Peter Anderson, Carnival Corp.’s recently appointed chief ethics and compliance officer.
Analyzing HESS events
Rowlett will oversee a team of global investigators focused on analyzing select health, environment, safety and security (HESS) events across the company’s nine cruise line brands. She is also responsible for leading efforts to deploy new global investigation procedures, develop an investigator training and certification program, and standardize a company-wide, root-cause analysis system to foster continuous operational improvement.
As Carnival Corp.’s investigative arm that operates independent of the company’s brands, the incident analysis group delves into HESS-related events, making recommendations to enhance policies, procedures and training, and recommending corrective and preventative action plans and sharing lessons learned.
Broader perspective
Additionally, the group will investigate issues that extend beyond a single event to enhance safety and environmental protection from a broader perspective, and develop training programs for brand investigators to standardize and improve the quality of investigations.

Hiring four additional investigators
Rowlett is leading the effort to expand the group and strategically position four additional investigators around the globe to allow for quick response. Currently, team members reporting to Rowlett are based in Miami, Orlando and Hamburg, with four additional team members to be based in Southampton, Sydney, Santa Clarita (California) and Genoa.
Rowlett joins Carnival following a long career leading investigations and spearheading safety initiatives. Her 29-year tenure at the NTSB included leadership positions overseeing investigation of aviation accidents and accidents involving railroad, pipeline and hazardous materials. She earlier aserved as an air traffic controller at Los Angeles International Airport and in the US Air Force.
