Battery packs for emissions-free sailing
The 530-passenger expedition ship features battery packs which will allow it to sail for short stints in emissions-free silence.
This advanced, green technology was put to a test in the waters off Kleven Yard in Ulsteinvik.
'I am very pleased with the results of the sea trial. The Kleven employees, along with our subcontractors, have done a great job leading up to the successful sea trial,' Kleven CEO Olav Nakken said after Roald Amundsen returned to the yard Monday morning.
Roald Amundsen is currently undergoing final outfitting at Kleven alongside sister ship Fridtjof Nansen.
Inaugural season itineraries
After delivery this spring, Roald Amundsen will spend its maiden season on expedition cruises along the Norwegian coast, to Svalbard and Greenland, before traversing the Northwest Passage and heading south to Antarctica.
