Bolidt previews Experience and Innovation Centre

Bolidt has built an Experience and Innovation Centre in Rotterdam to help the synthetic decking specialist 'co-create' new products with industry partners.

The centre has been designed to showcase Bolidt's flooring solutions that are installed throughout. The facilities include a glass fronted Research and Innovation Laboratory for product testing. An auditorium has ambient mood lighting and a glass floor beneath the seating balcony to create a futuristic feel.

Interactive exhibits

Interactive exhibits and breakout areas and a new fit for purpose warehouse and a bar styled like an English pub are combined to facilitate innovation. ‘This is a place where colleagues can come together to share thoughts and talk about new ideas,' Bolidt CEO Rientz Willern Bol said.

‘Seven years ago, the company thought about how to proceed and adapt to society as a means of communication. We decided it was time to create a place to come together to have a conversation,' he continued, 'a place where applications, ideas and innovation could be fostered to create new solutions for our clients and partners and to find new ways to enhance existing products.’

Official opening in October

The company opened the centre with a soft launch May 1 to test the equipment and installations. A press preview day was held last week ahead of the facility’s official opening Oct 1.

Bolidt was founded in 1962 with the aim to develop solutions to conserve steel and concrete from environmental influences. Last year the company provided flooring solutions for 26 cruise ship retrofits. Over the past decade, Bolidt has worked on 400 newbuilds and retrofits combined.

Global-class win

The latest design win was the first Global-class ship for Genting Cruise Lines' Dream Cruises, due for delivery in 2021. It will be installed with 17,000sq mtr of decking solutions from the Dutch company.
