Regent names top officers for Seven Seas Grandeur

Capt. Luciano Montesanto will command Regent Seven Seas Cruises' new Seven Seas Grandeur when it debuts in November.

Other top brass include Staff Capt. Giuseppe Gargiulo, Chief Engineer Antonio Lagana, General Manager Franck Galzy and Cruise Director David Nevin.

Capt. Luciano Montesanto

Born in Crotone, a port city in Calabria, Italy, Montesanto completed his education and training at the Nautical Institute by age 19 and began sailng the world as a cadet for a tanker company. In 2002, after obtaining his officer’s license, his interests turned to cruise ships.

For the past 20 years Montesanto was involved in several cruise newbuilds and sailed the globe. He was promoted to captain of Seven Seas Splendor in 2022. While at home, the captain enjoys cooking, spending time with his dogs and traveling with his family.

Staff Capt. Giuseppe Gargiulo

Born in Naples, Italy, Gargiulo comes from a family of seafarers and fishermen and dreamed of working on cruise ships since he was a child. He graduated from the Nautical School in Sorrento in 1999 and began working as a deck cadet on cargo ships.

In 2003, Gargiulo got his wish, joining the cruise industry. He obtained his unlimited master license in 2006. He resides in Sorrento with his wife and children and during time off enjoys spending time with his family, walking nature trails in Sorrento and along the Amalfi Coast, and taking boat trips and fishing.

Chief Engineer Antonio Lagana

Living in a small village about 1,500 feet above sea level close to Reggio Calabria, Italy, Lagana has a view of the Messina Strait. As a child, he used to see cruise ships passing and hoped to work aboard one day. He studied in the Nautical College in Messina and after graduating spent three years in the Italian Navy then sailed on cargo ships.

In 2002, Lagana started his cruise career as third engineer and rose through the ranks to join Regent in 2011 as staff chief engineer. On vacations, he enjoys being with his wife and daughters and looking after his farm's olive trees and vineyards.

General Manager Franck Galzy

After graduating from the CAFA Sommelier Wine School in Angers, France, Galzy began his career at the Crabwall Manor Hotel & Spa in the UK. He joined Regent in 1999, and became the cruise line's youngest general manager in 2009.

Galzy was part of the newbuild team for Seven Seas Explorer and on the launch team for Seven Seas Splendor.

Cruise Director David Nevin

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and raised on a farm in the prairies of Saskatchewan, Nevin trained in musical theater at Sheridan College in Toronto and appeared in productions including 'Evita,' 'My Fair Lady' and 'Grease!' In 2001, his career took a nautical turn when Nevin embarked on his first cruise as a singer and dancer.

Rising through the ranks of the entertainment department, in 2016, Nevin joined Regent as an assistant cruise director, promoted to cruise director of Seven Seas Voyager in 2018. During vacations, he explores the world, hiking, camping and spending time with family in Canada.
