Few cruise ships visit the eastern Caribbean in summer when they're deployed to Europe instead, so Antigua touted calls by Disney Fantasy and Norwegian Sky on Wednesday.

It is the second time the two ships were alongside together at Heritage Quay.

24 summer calls booked in 2024

In fact, Antigua Cruise Port has 19 calls booked this summer, more than doubling last year's figures and up from 16 in 2019. To date, 24 calls are booked for summer 2024.

Disney Fantasy brought more than 3,600 passengers while Norwegian Sky arrived with over 2,200 passengers. Antigua Cruise Port and the Antigua & Barbuda Toursim Authority collaborated to provide a steel pan orchestra that created a festive Carnival atmosphere, and cultural greeters posed with cruisers.

Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez, who visited the port on Wednesday, credited the summer cruise performance to the partnership between the Antiguan government and Antigua Cruise Port.

Multiple calls by Norwegian Sky

Jessica Russell, leasing and marketing officer for the port, said Antigua has been enjoying an extended season with Norwegian Sky making multiple calls throughout the summer. She also welcomed Disney Fantasy.

The winter cruise season is expected to be busy with inaugural visits and homeporting.
