Cruise Baltic concludes 2023 fam trips showcasing autumn/winter pursuits

Cruise Baltic’s two 2023 familiarisation trips involving representatives from European, American and British cruise lines have concluded, their purpose being to illustrate what the region has to offer and showcase autumn/winter pursuits.

The first fam trip on October 3-9 focused on smaller ports and destinations, including Arendal in Norway, Malmö, Karlskrona, Kalmar and Helsingborg in Sweden and Nyborg in Denmark. 

The second trip from October 12-17 drew attention to larger ports and destinations featuring Oslo and Kristiansand in Norway, Kalundborg, Copenhagen and Rønne in Denmark, and Stockholm in Sweden. 

Both programs delved into medieval history, gastronomy, vibrant city life and nature. 

Cruise Baltic aims to promote the Baltic cruise product and extend the region’s cruise season, hence the participants were encouraged to think outside the box and experience some of the autumn and winter experiences available. 

The association will endeavour to promote the Baltic region as Northern Europe in a bid to increase cruise tourism. 

Revealing ‘well kept secrets’

‘For many years, the Baltic Sea region has mostly been known for St. Petersburg’ said Cruise Baltic Director Klaus Bondam. ‘The city has been the main attraction for many cruise lines entering the Baltic Sea region, which is one reason why many destinations in our region are well kept secrets to this day.’

He added, ‘With our new strategy and narrative, we are trying to challenge this by inviting cruise line representatives and guests to uncover the secrets of Northern Europe.’

The next fam trips (TBC) will take place February 29-March 5, 2024 for smaller ports and destinations, and October 17-22, 2024 for larger ports and destinations. 

‘For me, the interest of a fam trip is to be able to see the destinations and meet the people involved, allowing me to get a visual and understand the ins and outs of the destinations visited,’ said Charlotte Krantz, product development – shore excursion, Ponant, who joined the early October trip. ‘It also gives me the opportunity to have an idea of possible new destinations. We see the destinations from another perspective, and it allows us to see beyond third-party offers...' 

Cruise Baltic said it will continue to use fam trips to showcase the different destinations in the network over the coming years and market the Baltic Sea region as a cruise destination. 

Cruise Baltic Summit

In between the two trips, the Cruise Baltic network gathered in Aarhus, Denmark for three days of knowledge sharing as part of the Cruise Baltic Summit. Several cruise line representatives attended to participate in the discussions, sharing their insight on the challenges faced by ports and destinations in the Baltic Sea region.
