The Port Authority of València’s (PAV) head of marketing and cruise, Francesca Antonelli, stressed that ‘cruise tourism in our city is growing in a sustainable way,’ appealing to families as well as high-end passengers in particular.
In keeping with PAV’s custom, Antonelli gifted a traditional Valencian terracotta tile (socarrat) adorned with maritime motifs to the ship’s captain, Stig Betten, who commended Valenciaport for its professionalism. He said, ‘The entrance to the port has been very easy [to navigate], it is very comfortable to dock…’
He pointed out that ‘70% of the passengers got off the ship to visit various areas of the city.’
Boosting cruise tourism beyond the city centre
The passengers were arranged into four groups according to their interests and given the chance to visit the City of Arts and Sciences and the Oceanográfico, Albufera nature reserve, and more.
‘We are working to boost cruise activity beyond the city and its surroundings, in the inland counties and in the municipalities of the province that want to attract these tourists who dock at…the Port of València throughout the year,’ added Antonelli.
Transcoma handled the operations of the 170 mtr-long vessel, which had arrived at the MedCruise member port from Barcelona.
