Based in Fort Lauderdale, SMG provides technical, nautical, hotel, crewing and catering management services to the ocean cruise, river and offshore sectors.

CMI, V.Ships background

Barreiro de Leon previously served as president/CEO of CMI Ship Management and earlier spent more than 20 years as managing director of V.Ships Leisure USA.

He said SMG, whose team has deep and senior level experience, provides clients with the ability to efficiently deliver their products in line with first-class industry benchmarks and in compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.

Besides Fort Lauderdale, locations include Cyprus, Haugesund (Norway), Naples, Rotterdam, Lisbon, Bangkok, Manila and Batumi (Georgia).

Beyond traditional ship management services

Beyong providing traditional ship management functions, SMG said it offers specialized services catering to the distinct demands of niche markets, and eco-friendly practices are incorporated such as monitoring and analysis of the Carbon Intensity Indicator and strategic planning for continuous compliance with the EU Emissions Trading System and other relevant carbon taxation regulations.

'Our comprehensive approach includes the acquisition and submission of allowances, along with exploring alternative compliance solutions, ensuring that our operations not only contribute to a greener maritime industry but also promote long-term environmental stewardship,' Barreiro de Leon said.

SMG is available for both long-term partnerships and independent contractor arrangements, and services include assistance seeking funding for fleet expansion, major refurbishments or for exploring new opportunities in the maritime sector.

Aiming to make an impact

'We're not just following the industry standard; we are setting new ones, driven by a commitment to excellence. Our approach is about more than just managing ships; it's about making a significant impact,' Barreiro de Leon said.
