Carnival Cruise Line partnered with Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex to launch a children’s space program with activities inspired by NASA science.

It will debut in November on Carnival Celebration, sailing from PortMiami.

As part of Camp Ocean’s science and discovery programming, the Space Cruisers curriculum supported by NASA is designed to enable children of all ages to explore the universe and Earth in an array of experiences. Children will be able to complete 'missions' to earn a special, themed mission patch representative of the program.

Optimal Orbit

Youngsters ages 2-8 can learn about gravity and how planets, satellites and other objects move through space in a hands-on experience with a giant trampoline.

Design Your Own Mission Patch

Kids 6-11 can join the long-standing tradition among astronauts and design their own take-home mission patch to tell their story.

Space Cruisers Rocket Workshop

The 6- to 11-year-olds can also follow in the footsteps of NASA’s engineers and build their own paper rocket.

Mars Base Connect

This family-friendly activity explores the steps it takes to build a Mars base. Participants can come together as a family and create their own.

Astro!

Families also can call out constellations as they’re displayed on a star projector in a space-themed Bingo! game for the chance to win special giveaways.

'Kids are always looking to explore new things, and this program gives them the chance to discover many of the awesome aspects of space through fun activities while taking away unique learnings,' said Melissa Mahaffey, director of youth experience for Carnival Cruise Line.

An area of Camp Ocean will feature a space wall that showcases the planets while, on the ceiling, a display of constellations will include actual constellations and Carnival-themed shapes like a ship and the line's iconic funnel.

Mardi Gras up next

The program will debut on Carnival Celebration and then roll out to the Space Coast with Mardi Gras at Port Canaveral in time for the holiday season. Various activities from the program will later go fleetwide in time for spring break.
