Fincantieri and Renovit, a Snam subsidiary and an associate company of CDP Equity, which operates in the energy efficiency sector, plan to build solar farms at five Fincantieri production sites in Italy.

The aim is to save on energy bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The agreement has Renovit supplying, installing and managing 22,000 solar panels for 15 years at shipyards in Marghera, Monfalcone, Riva Trigoso and Sestri Ponente and at the engine production plant in Modugno - Bari of subsidiary Isotta Fraschini Motori.

10 MW total capacity

The panels will cover an area of more than 50,000 square meters, equivalent to about six football pitches, and will have a total capacity of about 10 MW.

This will enable Fincantieri to achieve hefty energy cost savings and will reduce the need to purchase around 11 GWh of energy from the grid each year, increasing the group's energy independence.

Joins other initiatives

The solar farm is part of Fincantieri's strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at its production sites. Already implemented initiatives include the purchase of energy from certified renewable sources, adopting highly efficient and remotely managed indoor and outdoor lighting systems and introducing highly efficient ventilation and compressed air generation systems.
