The B Corp certificates are issued by B Lab, a nonprofit network founded in the United States in 2006, ‘transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities and the planet.’
Rigorous and rewarding
Aurora CEO Michael Heath said the three-year process was rigorous, but rewarding.
The line was assessed on its impact across five key areas: governance, workers, community, environment and customers.
Key to Aurora’s certification was its portfolio of sustainability programmes, including its 100% climate neutral status, emissions reduction strategies. conservation climate change education and support of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Responsibility to educate
‘We have been taking passengers on small ship expeditions to some of the world’s most remote and untouched wilderness destinations for more than three decades and we recognise acutely our responsibility to inspire, educate and advocate for the preservation of these important ecosystems,’ Heath said.
‘As a B Corp in the expedition travel space, we’re counted among businesses that are leading a global movement for change and we hope to inspire others in our industry to do the same.’
