Celebrity Xpedition grounds in the Galápagos

Celebrity Xpedition ran aground Tuesday evening while sailing its regular itinerary in the Galápagos Islands.

No injuries reported

‘All guests and crew are safe, and we have no reported injuries,’ parent company Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. tweeted.

Evacuating as a precautionary measure

The ship’s 46 passengers and non-essential crew are being evacuated to a nearby vessel as a precautionary measure and are being picked up by the 100-passenger Celebrity Flora.

The company said it was not aware of any environmental impact but will continue to check closely. Celebrity Xpedition's condition is being assessed.

A few months back, the ship's passenger capacity was reduced to 48 from 100.
