Ahead of the inaugural F&B@Sea Awards, taking place at F&B@Sea on 11 April 2024, we caught up with Bret Thorn, to get his thoughts on why the awards are crucial to the industry and what they think makes for a stand-out entry.

Why did you choose to be a judge for the inaugural F&B@Sea Awards?
The cruise industry has had a tumultuous few years and it’s an honor to be able to honor those players who have managed to maintain culinary excellence during that time.
In your view, why are the F&B@Sea Awards crucial for the industry?
Vacationers worldwide are increasingly interested in enjoying great food and beverage while they travel. Shining a spotlight on operators who excel at providing that will help inspire others and improve the offerings of the cruising industry as a whole.
What advice would you give to companies considering entering the awards?
Take your time in applying for these awards and explain clearly why you are deserving of them. But remember, you don’t get extra points for long applications: Brevity is the soul of wit!
What, in your opinion, constitutes a standout entry?
An entry that clearly and concisely explains what distinguishes you from everyone else in the category.
What are the top three criteria you prioritize when evaluating an entry?
- The entry clearly is helping to move the industry forward from an F&B perspective
- It’s unique
- It’s clear and concise.
