BIO-UV's ballast water system wins USCG type approval

The US Coast Guard's Marine Safety Center issued a Ballast Water Management System type approval certificate to BIO-UV Group of France, following a detailed review.

The treatment principle of the BIO-SEA B BWMS consists of filtration with UV treatment at uptake and discharge. This approval covers models with maximum treatment rated capacities between 55 m3/h and 1,400 m3/h.

Ninth system approved

BIO-UV's technology becomes the ninth ballast water treatment system to receive USCG type approval.

The others are Samsung Heavy Industries' Purimar BWMS and Techcross Inc.'s Electro-Clean System (both from South Korea), Erma First FIT (Greece), Ecochlor BWTS (US), Sunrui's BalClor (China), TeamTec OceanSaver's OceanSaver MK II (Norway), Alfa Laval's Pure Ballast 3 (Sweden) and Optimarin's OBS/OBS Ex (Norway).
