As reported, the Australian circumnavigation by the company’s fourth and newest ship Coral Adventurer, which will enter service next month, marks its 35th anniversary.
The inaugural 14-night circle Tasmania voyage departs Hobart on January 1, 2020, and will be operated by the 72-passenger purpose-built Coral Discoverer which was launched in 2005 and refurbished in 2016.
Tasmanian summer cruises
Based in Hobart during the Tasmanian summer, Coral Discoverer offers seven-night sailings from January 27, 2020, running until mid-March.
The circumnavigation will feature the same key themes of wildlife, including mega-pods of dolphins, fur seal colonies and rare birdlife, maritime and convict history and the state’s local produce. Tasmania has a cooler climate and makes distinctly different pinot noir, chardonnay and riesling wines than the rest of the country.
Vineyard dinner in Tamar Valley
Many of the areas visited are hard to access by road and highlights include a call at King Island, renowned for its cheese, a hike in the Strezlecki National Park on Flinders Island and dinner at the Josef Chromy Wines vineyard in the Tamar Valley region.
‘Circumnavigations hold a special place in our heart at Coral Expeditions as they allow us to explore an entire island at a leisurely pace, much like the explorers of old,’ commercial director Jeff Gillies said. ‘Except, of course,’ Gillies said, ‘our guests do it in comfort and style.
‘We make full use of our shallow-draught ships to take guests to rarely seen places during these extended trips.’
Around 30% international passengers
Earlier, Coral Expeditions told Seatrade Cruise News that around 70% of its passengers are from the domestic market, with 30% of international passengers on an average cruise, with the UK and United States as the major overseas markets.
