It will be the second to hit Fiji’s west in a week, following Cyclone Josie which reportedly killed six people and caused extensive damage.
The Fiji government has announced that all schools in the country will be closed until at least Wednesday and that schools will be available as evacuation centres.
Jackie Haworth-Charlton, executive director of Captain Cook Cruises Fiji, said Reef Endeavour is currently in safe anchorage off the south coast of Vanua Levu on an extended 'Colonial Discovery' itinerary. Haworth-Charlton said all passengers and crew are safe and it is likely Reef Endeavour’s return to Port Denarau will be delayed until Wednesday, or possibly April 12.
Royal Caribbean’s Voyager of the Seas, which left Sydney on April 5 on an 11-night round cruise to the South Pacific, has adjusted her itinerary to replace Fiji with Vanuatu and New Caledonia.
A spokeswoman for Carnival Australia said none of the company’s ships are affected.
