Anticipation builds on the eve of Seatrade Cruise Med 2022

A new concept coming to this year’s event is The Destination Discovery Zone - a new area centrally located on the show floor, showcasing what destinations from around the world have to offer cruise passenegers
Delegates are starting to roll into the Trade Fair and Congress Center of Málaga today ahead of the launch of Seatrade Cruise Med kicking off tomorrow.

The September 14-15 event returns after a four-year hiatus. In partnership with MedCruise, and hosted by the Port of Málaga, Málaga City Council, Costa del Sol and Andalucía, it will host 2,000 attendees, 200+ cruise line representatives and 170+ exhibitors from 70+ countries, who will have the chance to network, source new solutions, forge meaningful partnerships and plan for positive change in the industry.

Comprehensive and carefully curated conference sessions 

‘Inspired by the overarching theme “Steering Change Together,” this year’s conference includes two keynote sessions, followed by a robust schedule of multi-track sessions that have been thoughtfully curated by leading experts,’ remarked Chiara Giorgi, global brand and event director for Seatrade Cruise. ‘Covering the latest trends in ports and destinations along with luxury and expedition cruising, technology, and more, the programme will provide comprehensive insights into the Mediterranean region and beyond.’

Highlights

In addition to the State of the Industry Keynote sponsored by Cruise Saudi and presented in partnership with Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) taking place tomorrow, highlights include ‘Are You Fit for 55?’ where CLIA, the EU Commission, ports and cruise line representatives will share their perspectives on how to move towards meeting the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, the latest updates on legislative proposals, challenges posed to cruise lines, suppliers and EU ports, and more. The speakers are: Linden Coppell, VP sustainability and ESG, MSC Cruises; Martyn Griffiths, director public affairs, CLIA; Heino Nau, coordinator - International Blue Economy, European Commission; Barbara Scheel Agersnap, CEO, Copenhagen Malmo Port; Stephen Xuereb, COO, Global Ports Holding Plc.; Luis de Carvalho, CEO, Bermello Ajamil & Partners Europe moderates the session.

On Wednesday evening, the winners of the Seatrade Cruise Awards are revealed as part of the Seatrade Cruise Med Welcome Reception.

Liz Gammon, Seatrade Cruise expedition ambassador, cruise industry expert and advisor, presents ‘Beyond the Poles: Expedition Workshop’ on Thursday. The speakers are: Frederique Patry, manager itinerary planning, Silversea Cruises; James Griffiths, VP marine operations, Scenic - Luxury Cruises & Tours; Linda Hogsten, head of shore excursions, Hurtigruten Expeditions; Michaela Sauer, expedition activity development manager, Ponant. Targeted at every port and destination that is not in The Arctic or Antarctica, the workshop offers an opportunity for expedition cruise line executives to share what new destinations need to deliver shoreside in order to entice them to call.

A Sail Away Party will be held late on Thursday afternoon.

A new concept coming to this year’s event is The Destination Discovery Zone - a new area centrally located on the show floor, highlighting unique destinations from around the world.
