CLIA congratulates Australia’s re-elected PM

Scott Morrison
Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison has recognised the cruise industry’s infrastructure needs
Cruise Lines International Association Australasia and Asia md Joel Katz congratulated Australia’s incumbent Prime Minister Scott Morrison on his re-election last Saturday and said CLIA is pleased to have the opportunity for ongoing engagement with the Australian Government and its agencies as it works to support cruise growth.

'We’re very encouraged by recent developments on the infrastructure front and the need to provide additional berthing facilities in Sydney,’ Katz said. ‘While the next stages of progress will come from the NSW Government as it develops a business case for a third Sydney cruise terminal, it is important that the cruise industry’s infrastructure needs have also been recognised at the national level.’ Katz said.

Federal Government funding

‘The Australian Government last year allocated funding of $300,000 to assist the NSW Government in identifying feasible locations for additional cruise facilities in Sydney, while more recently the need for a new Sydney terminal was included on Infrastructure Australia’s Priority List for 2019.

‘The cruise industry has also been invited to participate in Austrade’s Tourism Access Working Group which identifies opportunities to strengthen Australia’s tourism industry through policy reform and infrastructure development.’

Katz said CLIA Australasia will assist wherever possible in developing policies at the state and federal level which provide for future prosperity in cruising, not only in Sydney but around the country.
